Trupthi Devaiah (in picture) is a home grown scientist who did her schooling and college in Kodagu.

Presently, she is doing postdoctoral research at Uppsala University in Sweden, where she is engaged in cutting-edge technology which involves working on special kind of material that can turn heat into electricity.

Chonamada Trupthi was born at Hatur near Gonikoppal and went to Loudres Hill School in Polibetta. Trupthi told me: “My love for learning started early at Loudres Hill School in Polibetta. After that, I had the amazing opportunity to attend Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya, Galibeedu in Kodagu where I completed my secondary education.”

She obtained her Bachelor of Science degree from Cauvery College, Gonikoppal, where she won several awards for her academic excellence.

She said: “My thirst for knowledge led me to Jain University, where I earned a gold medal in my Master of Science in Chemistry. This achievement unlocked the door to a prestigious DST INSPIRE fellowship, supporting my PhD studies. The Centre for Soft Matter Sciences in Bangalore became my research home for my PhD.

“Now, I’m thrilled to be continuing my scientific exploration with postdoctoral research at Uppsala University in Sweden. Throughout my academic journey, I’ve had the privilege of co-authoring several scientific publications and presenting my work at international conferences, where it has received recognition.”

Her present area of research is on metal chalcogenides for application in thermphotovoltaics.

Trupthi is not just a bookworm. “Beyond research, I find joy in nature walks, getting lost in a good book, writing short poems, and volunteering. These activities fuel my creativity and keep me grounded.”
