The RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat’s recent remark about stepping down at the age of 75 has triggered a political buzz.
At a book launch, Bhagwat said: “Turning 75 is nature’s signal to pause and give way to others.”
The opposition leaders were quick to react and wanted Modi to step down. Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said: “Modi forced senior leaders like LK Advani, Jaswant Singh, and Murli Manohar Joshi into retirement post-75. Let’s see if he’ll hold himself to the same standard.”
Congress leader Abhishek Singhvi joined the chorus and pointed out: “It’s dangerous to preach what you don’t practice.”
I am for one who wants Modi to continue in office. The 75 year bar was Modi’s brainwave to do away with competition and keep leaders like Advani out of his way.
Having completed 75 year myself last month, I know it is still not time to hang up my boots, as I feel I can go on for a while. I was happy to reach the milestone of 75. I was made to cut a cake (in picture) to mark the occasion.
Frankly, I do not have the energy level as that of Modi who is in robust health. With Modi raring to go for many more years, he should be allowed to continue on one condition – he should press the RESET button.
There is need for course correction. Modi’s demonetisation has taken the country back by 10 years.
Despite his globetrotting and ‘hug’ diplomacy, the only true friend India now has is Israel, whose leaders are involved in massacre of innocent people.
There is too much inequality in the country in the distribution of wealth as wealth is concentrated in the hands of a few friends of Modi. He should use the reset button to create a level playing field.
