GIRLS FROM COORG MAKE INROADS IN SHOWBIZ

Girls from Coorg have always been known for their beauty. Little wonder, then, that filmmakers across industries are seeking them out to act in their films. Be it Sindhu Loknath, who is awaiting the release of Jai Bajarangabali, or Harshika Poonacha, who is readying for Gulaabi Street, or Deepika Kamaiah, fresh from her Bigg Boss Kannada stint, everyone’s doing films in multiple industries. Along with them, actresses like Nidhi Subbaiah, Shubra Aiyappa and Aditi Chengappa have made other industries their home, but are still proud of their Kodagu  lineage. Here’s taking a look at these girls…

Deepika Kamaiah: 

This beauty has been acting since 2011. She has acted in several industries. Deepika is a known face in Kannada, Tamil and Hindi film industries. She is a model-turned-actress and was in the second season on Bigg Boss Kannada. Deepika was also one of the finalists of Femina Miss India. 

 

Shubra Aiyappa: 

This leggy lass began her acting career earlier this year. She debuted in the Telugu film industry and is set to make her Malayalam debut soon. She was born and raised in Bengaluru and studied in Mount Carmel College. The actress was supposed to make her debut in YVS Chowdhary’s Rey, but opted out of the project soon after she signed it. Shubra claims that she became an actor by chance. 


Sindhu Loknath:

Sindhu’s real name is Yashika, but is known by her stage name. She has been acting since 2009 and became popular after the 2011 film, Lifeu Ishtene. Her next big break came in Yogaraj Bhat’s Drama. She then had a pivotal role in Yaare Koogadali. Sindhu has acted in Kannada, Tamil and Telugu films and has been seen in several ads. 

 

Nidhi Subbaiah: 

This Coorg beauty has been acting since 2009. She was also a model before turning to movies. Nidhi debuted in the 2009 Telugu film Sweet Heart. And she recently made her Bollywood debut in Ajab Gazabb Love in 2012. Nidhi was also nominated twice for South Filmfare Awards. She also won SIIMA Special Appreciation Award-Kannada for Krishnan Marriage Story. 

 

Harshika Poonacha: 

The year 2008 saw Harshika making her debut in films. She has acted in a variety of industries, like Kannada, Konkani, Kodava, Tamil and Telugu. Harshika was born in Kodagu district and is the only daughter to her parents. She has signed her first Tamil film and is also set to make in-roads in Tollywood. Kannada audiences will next see her in Gulaabi Street.
