The names of the candidates doing the rounds in political circles gives the impression that money is going to dominate the election. The members of the various local bodies in Kodagu, who are the voters, are in for good times.
Only the BJP has announced its candidate, whereas the Congress and JDS are yet to make up their minds. The BJP Kodagu district unit president Mandepanda Suja Kushalappa (in picture) is the candidate.
The term of the sitting MLC ends on January 5, 2016. Kodagu has 104 gram panchayats, one City Municipal Council, three town panchayats, three taluk panchayats and one Zilla Panchayat.
The Congress is planning to field former MP and minister A. H. Vishwanath. There are moves to give the ticket to either the present MLC T John or his son Thomas, an industrialist. Besides, the names of Napanda Muthappa, Arun Machaiah and Mittu Chengappa are also doing rounds.
With parties mulling over fielding money bags, Kodagu is going to witness corrupt politics in the coming weeks.
